Oxfrith Academy

These learned masters of law, lore, and healing travel throughout Adrasil for the purpose of spreading wisdom, peace, and justice. Made up of the students and teachers at Oxfrith Academy, these wise folk seek neutrality with all, and wish only to heal and help those they encounter.

History of Oxfrith Academy

The academy and scriptorium of Oxfrith was founded in ancient days by Gregory de Gaelen. Gregory was a descendent of the famous healer Gaelen himself - the father of Adrasillian medicine - and before relinquishing his titles and devoting his wealth to the founding of the academy, he had been a prominent landowner in the Grimmock region. Gregory de Gaelen provided his family’s wealth of medicinal knowledge, while the other founders organized a college and hospital to teach others with a passion for medicine, and to serve those in need of refuge and wisdom. The founders chose an area in Greyton, near the border of Olaran in the Bickerburg Hills because the plentiful herbs growing native to the area had long been a refuge for those who studied the healing arts. Likewise, the first sciptorium in Olaran, now part of the academy, provided the healers with many useful texts.

While Oxfrith originally began as a college of medicine, over the next several decades it grew to be a full Academy with more areas of study. Now it contains three branches - Law, Lore, and Healing.

The Academy at Oxfrith in Olaran is a place where people of all realms are welcome; Oxfrith is a respected place of neutrality, and is not aligned with any faction or religion. In fact, those who work in the Academy and lead the Healer’s guild take an oath of permanent neutrality, as do the Scholars who study under the Lawmasters and Sages.

Oxfrith Culture and Look

Emblem: The ornate Oxfrith “O.”

Culture: Inspired by historic medieval universities, bimaristans, traveling physicians, and sages, the scholars of “Oxfrith Academy” are a group of students lawmasters and healers that serve all peoples in all lands. The medical students of this university (known as “Scholars”) wear brown and tan robes, as well as the burnt orange sashes denoting academy students.

Lawmasters wear distinctive burnt orange robes, or charcoal robes with orange lining, while the head healers (known as “Sages”) of the university wear charcoal gray scholarly robes with purple. Preceptors are the various other teachers of the Academy, and generally wear emerald-lined robes, or wear a large amount of purple in their kits (NOTE: Lawmaster, Preceptor, and Sage roles are currently only open to NPCs).

Oxfrith Academy is open to noncombatant players. There are no combatant slots in this faction.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This faction will assist the Lawmasters (formerly “Heralds”) with in-game arbitration, and objectives. All players joining this faction should familiarize themselves with the rules and details of combat. Scholars (players) will mostly be the eyes and ears of the Lawmasters, and will not handle any major rule infraction (which will be handled by NPCs). During non-combat times they will function alongside the leaders of the Healers Guild for quests and faction lore, and be their assistants, their neutrality allowing them to move between the factions with ease.
