As the head of the court system in Olaran, Rassendyll Crouchback is one of the most influential figures in the Olar court. While he does not vote in council matters, his legal advice and rulings are often taken into account by both king and council.

After debate and the hearing of many witnesses, the High Chancellor found the Killian guilty of treason, but recommended a lenient sentence in light of the Duke’s extenuating circumstances. When the council decided against this suggestion, Crouchback empowered the High Priest of Luminos to revive the ancient Order of Luminos as an alternative, should Killian accept it. This Killian eventually did, and the Order was placed under the joint jurisdiction of the legal arm of Olaran, and the Church of Luminos.

These letters hinted that the High Chancellor was not satisfied with Bryce’s claims to the throne of Olaran, and that he might not be the only council member concerned about the rapid rise of the former Kingsmen warrior to the throne. These letters ended up becoming part of the reason that the Archdeacon of Luminos threatened Bryce’s excommunication if the latter did not answer for his actions before the Church and Council.
Now Crouchback stands in a precarious position, and his endeavors to remain neutral and uphold the rule of law in Olaran have become more difficult than ever before…
